A Change of Heart

Going into this war in Iraq I was very opposed to it. And I still think that we were unjustified in how we went to war against Sadaam Hussein's regime. Although I think he is an evil guy, and I also think that this "invasion" has changed our face in a lot of ways throughout the world. But today I read a post on the Iraq The Model blog and it nearly brought me to tears in my little cubicle.

I still don't think that going to war the way we did was the right thing. But now I have hope that at least our rash actions may improve lives for some people and help the Iraqi's taste freedom. I truly hope that the elections in January and their new government are succsessful and I wish there was something I could do to help.

Apologies

Dear non existent readers,
I realize that I have been remiss in remaining somewhat moderate in my posts. Frequently I find myself incensed by the stupidity of conservatives and while I disagree with them, I have not done a good job of discrediting them, merely insulted them. (Although I still enjoy Henry examines website as an interesting critique of the Bush administration's science policies).

I will try in future to focus more on the validity of assumptions being made in the world and less on how stupid some people can be. Hmmm maybe I'll make a whole different blog for the stupid people. Good thought.

Have a lovely afternoon.

Alert: Talking about Sex can get you Pregnant!

No, But seriously. Apparently acknowledging that children having genitals (and possibly, SHOCK, knowing they have genitals) before the age of 18 causes all sorts of problems. In fact they are probably giant homosexuals that will eventually be executed (more on that here).

And actually the above link talks about my second link of the day This Bitch. Who may actually be the stupidest woman on the face of the planet. To boil it down for those of you who no like read. Woman, jewish folky family from New Jersy, grows up, loses her innocence and has to deal with the real world, daughter gets molested by 13 year old neighbor because he saw some porn. Daughter is depressed and dies of aneurism eventually (very sad :-( ) And it can all be blamed on Mr. Alferd Kinsey, of recent biografilm fame. (Though is survey wasn't very accurate his subject matter was original and as a statistician I respect him for asking questions about new subjects, even if his work isn't as statistically valid as I would like) Apparently acknowleding our sexuality is the worst possible thing we could ever do.

Which, brings me to a very funny post on the Cabal site mocking abstinence programs in our schools (See my below post about heaven)

The Christmas Spirit

This weekend when I was talking to my mom she asserted that I had something against Christmas. Now I should share with you, dear non existant reader, that in my highschool days (5 years ago) I worked in a gift store that specialized in Christmas ornaments and and Nutcrackers. And that in this store, we listened to Manheim Steamroller from August to January, (Until they came out with their Disney album and then we listened to it year round). And so through the animosity of beanie babie collectors wanting their $5 sack of plastic and cloth painstaikingly gift wrapped and the irritation of well off collectors a the smallest scratch on their USELESS PEICES OF WOOD I grew to become, well lets say "disenchanted" with the holiday.

I did not realize that this made me Schrooge just because I would rather not listen to the same christmas carols over and over and over sung by different people and would have preferred Handel's messiah or even some secular type Frank Sinatra. In fact I have always enjoyed seeing my family around the holidays, especially after I moved away and no longer saw them more than three times a year. But today I read an article that helped explain the growing holiday rift between myself and my family

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6646394/

Which talks about the correlation between the "messages" of recent Santa type flicks and what I will here call "red state" values. So basically it talks about how movies now encourage accepting something without proof, much like our government has been encouraging lately (see previous posts).

I don't know where I was going with this. More later.
